In my previous post I was hoping my dream holiday would be in Korea. In secondlife, I teleported to Korea University to see how was it look like over there. The campus is nice and clean!!!

I guess this is there conference room! Look extremely cool!

They have shop that sell clothes too!
I feel that their campus is so high class! haha!
If I will have the chance to go Korea, maybe I should explore to see whether is it the same condition in Secondlife!

EIR Practical 8&9: Activity 2: My Dream Holiday
http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/index.kto

I would like to travel my way to Korea for holiday!
There are lots of food there and of course there clothes and make ups there are really cheap!

Food that I would like to try...

Grilled Galbi (Seasoned ribs)
Ribs of beef or pork are sliced into easy to eat portions, then marinated in seasonings before being grilled.

Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken soup)
A young chicken is cleaned out then stuffed with various ingredients before being boiled to draw out a delicious broth.

Kimchi
Cabbages and other vegetables are soaked in salt water, then seasoned with different spices before being fermented. There are many different types of kimchi, such as cabbage kimchi (the most common), cucumber kimchi, radish kimchi, cubed radish kimchi, green onion kimchi, and more. It is a health food filled with vitamins, minerals, and more.

Bibimbap (Rice Mixed with Vegetables and Beef)
A dish made by mixing rice with various other cooked vegetables. Great for experiencing different vegetables, pleasing to the eye, and full of nutrients. Jeonju's variation of
bibimbap is most famous.

Even though there are also similar food found in Singapore, I would also like to taste the original style in Korea!

Tutorial 7

Forming group of 5 as we will be evaluating the website on stomp.
2 criteria we will be looking at is the currency and accessibility.

Currency refers to whether a website is up-to-date. Whether the website had provide informations that is current for users.

Accessibility refers to speed of access, language of source might be different, restrictions to access through registration and logging in, cost, copyright and reliability of access.

After a scan through study on Stomp, Stomp provide up-to-date information for users and the accessibility is fast and efficient. There is no need to have a login ID to access the websites unless a comment is posted. It is free access for user and is pretty reliable as the host of this web is The Straits Time.

From this activity, I had learn how to evaluate a website whether the websites provide relevant information for user like us.

Practical 6: Activity 4 (Blog [and Twitter]Reflections)

Invisible web also referred to as the deep Web, the term refers to either Web pages that cannot be indexed by a typical search engine or Web pages that a search engine purposely does not index, rendering the data "invisible" to the general user.

In my point of view, invisible web is not as effective as Meta-Search and Subject Directory.
It is because invisible website are not easily accessible as it might require researcher to have a Username and Password to access to that database. It is much more inconvenient as compared to Meta Search Engine and Subject Directory.

However, I would still use the invisible web for research in my own respective Diploma as it support students like us in doing research. It will provide us with more relevant result to our research topic.

This week, we are already working on the Wiki Sites and I had learn that managing a Wiki site is not as easy as we thought. The input by other researchers might not be relevant to the research topic, as we, as a researcher are also inputing our own research informations will need to help to amend and apportion the information posted by other researcher. Especially the format of the Wiki.

Today I had been jumping through my classmate LiRong's Blog. I saw her previous post on online purchases. She said that if she have $500 she would buy a camera!

Fuji Instant Instax Mini 7S Polaroid Camera + Film&Case
Which cost her S$ 142.09!
This is damn cool! I would like to buy one with I got the money!

Practical 4&5: Activity 3 – Site Feeding and Blog Reflections

Practical 4&5
Activity 3 – Site Feeding and Blog Reflections

A) What benefits do you get when using different search facilities to search for resources related to your topic?

Basically with the use of different search facilities will results in different web page available for us to do our research. In this week tutorial, we are told to review on the features, strength and weakness of Meta Search Engine and Yahoo! Search Directory.

First, we shall look at Meta Search Engine.

A metasearch engine is a search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines and/or databases and aggregates the results into a single list or displays them according to their source. Metasearch engines enable users to enter search criteria once and access several search engines simultaneously.

The search results is relevant as it provides information regarding the research topic. It is more up to date. However it only listed out 2 pages of links.

The strengths of Meta Search Engine is that it provides much more related topic to what is actually being search. It consists very detailed information and it can be easily accessed.

Secondly, let us look at Yahoo! Search Directory.

It arranges all the subject topics in alphabetical order and it is a subject based guide to websites and web content. It is part of the entire Yahoo! Network.

The search results is not relevant at all as it did not list out the information of my research topic even though it is stated to be up to date. The total number of hits being stated is only 57.

As compared to Meta Search Engine, Yahoo! Search Directory provides me with more hits but not relevant to my research topic.

B)How do you feel about using site feeds in your blog?

Site feeds makes me able to access to my friend's web page by just a click. It makes a convenient way for readers like me to access to different webpage.

C)What do you like best about collaborating on Wiki with other students who share similar research topic as you?

The best thing I like about collaborating on Wiki with other students is that we share our thoughts and research on Wiki and we are able to learn different things from other researcher too.

Individual Blog Activity : (Virtual Youths Meeting and Networking on Second Life (E-learning Activity)

Individual Blog Activity : (Virtual Youths Meeting and Networking on Second Life (E-learning Activity)

Today I get to go 2nd life to know new friend. In virtual world I feel so different, I love to explore the place there and talk to unknown user online. Where in real life, we usually don't approach unknown user to start a conversation. This is what I like about second life. It helps me to open up more of myself to know new friend out there.

However, in virtual world we still have to look out at how we present ourselves in front of others. I feel that god manner and behaviour must be maintained at all times.

Today I teleported to "HKpolyU" to know new friend from Hong Kong. I chatted with this guy call BillyNg. He is 28 year old this year, studying Master of Computer Science(Software Technology).

We are told to ask them some question too
When asked...

a. What are the items that they would buy online?
He told me that normally he will buy clothes, electronic products like mobile..

b. Are they sensitive towards pricing?
He told me he is sensitive toward the pricing as he always depends on the function and quality of the items he buy.

c. Which are the popular E-shopping sites in Hong Kong, why?
He told me Taobao.com is the most famous E-shopping in HongKong even though it is a website hosted in China. He says that Taobao products are way more cheaper than HongKong.

d. How do you plan to stay connected with your new friend in future?
He say though Facebook and eventually we added one another through Facebook after out conversation end.

I also ask him what are his hobbies too!
He told me he love gym-ing and playing games and normally he will spend 1 hour on games and 2 day per week on gym-ing!

I feel great to make a new friend from other country! To know about there lifestyle there and what they usually do in there country too! A experience of getting a new friends out of Singapore.
Actually, I'm once a addictive gamer. Whereby I make lot of new friends online. But SecondLife is different. We are there to discuss about our views and interest. It's a new way of experience to make new friend through discussion.

If you were to ask me what I had gain from e-learning experience, I feel that I am more independent in learning! I source out the way to do my stuff. Explore new solution to solve the question myself. It makes me understand more of my work!

The most challenging thing I had is that I don't use to the navigation of secondlife.

Individual Blog Activity : (Reflection on Virtual Shopping Spree on Second Life (E-learning Activity)

Question2
What products/services are offered
They have a lot of clothes and make ups! at Port Seraphine!

The shopping environment/ambiance (eg look & feel?)
It feel very grand and the ambience is great. There are music playing the background as we shop.

Accessibility to the products/services offered (free or chargeable)
I didn't really browse through all the products as there are too much of it. The stuff that I selected are all chargeable!

User-friendliness & flexibility (eg moving around, adding to your inventory, speed of access, help facilities)
I feel that it is hard for me to move around. Sometime it lags.

People you meet during your virtual shopping
I saw a number of shopper there too. However, we didn't get a chance to chat as we are all busy shopping for items!

Question 4
What do you like best about this virtual experience which you cannot get in real-life?”I can explore the place like I'm really shopping! even though it look quite cartoon to me! And I can teleport to the place where I want to shop easily. It is convenient and effective!

Question 3

Compare with your E-Shopping Spree on Internet
E-shopping Spree is more reslistic as we can really physically received the items I bought online whereby, in secondlife it is not as realistic. And everything in Secondlife is animated.

E-leanring makes me more independent in learning. I learn more things through my own ability. The most challenging thing is that I need to source information on my own.

EIR Practical 3 - Activity 4 – Blog Reflections

Google search engine have actually made research easier to internet user. There are total 22 features offer by Google. The most common used ones is the search engine. Whereby, people can simply search by just a click. I’m impressed by the efficiency of Google. It provides fast detail for what I’m searching for and that includes images and videos. It makes my research easier as information can be easily sourced from Google.

This is the screenshot of me using Google to search for my discussion topic.

After pasting "(online OR connect*) AND (facebook OR social networking) AND (iPhone OR entertainment) AND (leisure* OR free time) AND (trend* OR style*) AND (youth* OR teenager)" to the search bar, this is what I got...

On Scholar Google,

This is what I got after pasting the same sentence to the search bar!

I feel that it is less relevant to the topic I am searching for. Most likely they have more PDF file in a report format.

Recently I had participated in a discussion forum regarding whether teenager is spending too much time on the computer and the risk that may arise. The discussion forum makes a easy path for researcher to gather the information they want. Outsider views are also welcomed in the thread. And from the hundreds of reply from the user, we can actually see that different people project themselves differently with the same question posted. Some are there to agree or to disagree to the main thread. Some are there to provide advice for people who face problems dealing with their kids.

I feel very excited to share my advice and idea with those unknown user out there too!

Now I shall head to do my citation and bibliography! Basically it is use to give credit to the author of the information that we source from and reader can know where our information is sourced from.

EIR_Tutorial 1&2 - Activity 2 – Individual Blog Activity

Facebook have been increasingly used by a lot of internet user to share their views and thoughts. The most common one are the FaceBook Group discussion board. Whereby people meet at the discussion to share about a common interest. It makes communication more convenient for users and views are easily shared among them.

To compare the online discussion experience and face-to- face communication within a class, I feel that face-to-face discussion will make less convenient to us. As we have to forge up our time to meet up. And information might be omitted during the discussion process. Whereby, discussions held online are more effective and convenient for us. A simple click or a short paragraph may be shared online. Users can leave comments on the topic discussed. However, the only disadvantage of online discussion is the “tone” we use in the sentence might be misleaded.

Online activity is always meaningful as it helps to bond users closer to one another. Working adult or students nowadays are busying with their work and studies. One thing that we always neglected is relationship with family and friends. Online discussion activity helps to bond them together and share about common thoughts, catch up with one another.
